Toxic

The Eucerin eye makeup remover solution isn't working out so well so I guess it doesn't even deserve a photo posted here!

Except for removing eyeshadows, it can't seem to take off eye pencils, liners, or anything that's a bit more difficult to, well, remove. So now I even doubt if the brand's facial cleansers even work at all?

I'd like to bring your attention to this site called Cosmetics Safety Database. Here, cosmetic products are tested for their level of toxicity and flagged from 0 (innocuous) to 10 (high hazard). All you have to do is type in a brand name and let it do a search.

I'm sorry to say that a lot of the beautiful, high-end brands have pretty high toxicity in some of their products. To my surprise, some drugstore brands aren't so bad!

In general, it seems like highly pigmented blushes, lipsticks, bronzers and compact powders have the highest toxicity, while sheer lip glosses or lipsticks are quite innocuous.

Also, the European Union has stricter regulations on cosmetic products than the USA. So a number of American brands actually are not distributed here, simply because they use ingredients that are not allowed by the E.U.

And no, the FDA does not do jack to regular cosmetics made in the USA. Beware, ladies!

That's the coolest site ever. Only very recently have I truly realized the importance of not purchasing makeup on impulse and this admittedly makes the process so much longer, haha - but it's great! Very cool.
As for makeup removers - I'm sick of using harsh one-step cleansers that make my skin feel so dry later, so I caved in and purchased a cleansing oil, which works fine. I heard Eucerin's best known for their moisturizers eh? I suppose their face washes wouldn't be so bad, because some brand are known for good things and shitty things...
I'm thinking of dedicating an entire post to Dubai in the near future, so be on the lookout haha.
What a pretty blog I must say, refreshing..

*GASP*
Are you serious? That is crazy!
I had no idea the U.S. FDA was so easy.
Well, I did have some background on certain brands like 'CoverGirl' testing on animals. Their products actually melted the fur off of bunnies:(
**Check out PETA**
Oh yeah, and 'Clean and Clear'is in tha same band wagon.
I never used these types of products anyhow *phew*.

I always try to purchase cruelty-free, all organic things. I feel that it's benefiting overall/in the end and nothing to feel guilty about!:)
**I even have an all organic futon! Haha:)**

Anyhow, a wonderful post you have made:)

Do you have any plans for Thankgiving? Well, I hope you have a safe and fun one!

Take care and talk to you soon!

Thanks for the bday wishes :) That sucks about the Eucerin remover, but I guess they are after all made for sensitive skin.

I've seen that website before and it seems it lists many ingredients as being hazardous...but problem is most of the effective products are on there listed as hazardous. I guess its the price of beauty...:S

there are a lot of couriers that don't take not if the package is indicated fragile or what..they won't even consider the fact that if it gets damaged, it'll be a waste of money to send it back to have it replaced..etc..so annoying..in the US you can have it replaced instantly..here in the philippines??? YOU WISH!

That's very interesting! I'm afraid to type in my beloved brands though.... hahah. Yea, I think the US has pretty low standards. Even in Asia the standards are super high because they sell so much beauty products there, it's GOTTA be safe.

Yup thanks dear! I learned some interesting things from that website. Oh didn't some sort of research conclude that Eucerin (and some other brand) caused cancer or something like that..?

Good to know. Thanks for letting us know! I think the main reason why a lot of well-known products have such high hazard scores is that most cosmetics contain fragrances, and since cosmetics aren't required to list what fragrances they use, they don't. The problem comes in when some fragrances are known carcinogens and neurotoxins, and others are perfectly fine. To be on the same side, however, the Cosmetics Safety Database labels all fragrances as 8, which obviously brings a lot of scores way up!
