A Little Rant

Every time I shop for cosmetics I get so mad at sales ladies.

As soon as you step inside, someone stops in front of you to ask "What are you looking for?" like you had to be looking for something. Well, I don't know, can I BROWSE FIRST?!

Then, you are completely left alone. Like deadly alone; hay-rolling-across-a-field alone. If you visit half an hour before closing time, someone will stare at you morbidly, just so you'd leave because you feel so unwelcome.

Scenario from this past weekend:

"Oh, I had no idea Shiseido had a cream eyeliner." [me in Italian]

"Yes."

"Um, what is it like?... Can I try it?" [picking up the product]

"Sure." [just standing there]

"Ummm, do I just use my FINGER?" [it's an eyeliner...]

"Yea, it's a tester."

"Ummmmm, do you have a brush, then I can try it properly?" [come on, I'm dying here!]

"Oufff, I don't have brushes just lying around here...I mean..."

She then opened a random drawer and gave me a bald stick that was once a brush in its previous life. It had three strands of hair left on it. She walked away and disappeared.

Seething with anger with a stick in my hand, I moved on to lipsticks.

"So? Do you want it?" was the response I got from her.

That's a commission-free world for you right there.

LOL! So sorry about that. That's the same with what I experienced years back in China... since they don't get anything for selling stuff, they could care less! But in Taiwan it's different. Even though you don't tip anyone, you still get amazing service. It's about the culture too I guess.

I know your post wasn't meant to be funny, but I laughed out loud at the sales woman's idiocy.

And I love that you can speak Italian! How many languages do you know fluently? It must be at least 3 or more!

I can understand your frustration. This is one of the reasons I buy online so much, as the sales ladies can be such a bother and they NEVER help when you want them to.

hahaha.. cheryl i think we all having the same problem all over the world... sometimes these sales ladies just don't even bother to serve me, maybe because they thought I'm not seriously buying anything... this is also the reason why sometimes I'll just stick to particular brands. Once SA knows me they know I do buy things ! although not much but at least something...hahahaha... 1 of my fren is always a big fish to High End brands..everytime she goes into mall, SA will treats her like a Queen... I'm just like her little maid beside her.. LoLz...

It really depends. I know many MA's who doesn't get commision and still helps me pick out the products I need. I also bought stuff from China many times and the MA usually is very nice and take time to show me all the different products. it's really just the people you have the deal with, some are nice, others not so much.

You must be shopping in Italy! Either they attack you first or they ignore you--I have noticed that about the Italian shopping experience!

Next time, I think you should take along your owne Q-tips, LOL!

Darnit that sales assistant shouldn't even be able to hold that title! :( Its weird because I laughed and then felt extreme annoyance at your story. I hope you didn't buy it from HER! :O Grrr, that annoys me so much! But you're correct in that their reactions are JUST that!

Hun, you're right about the networking sites. Best to stay away from it but I can't practise what i preach here sadly :(

Hey, whats your opinion on cream eyeliners? I don't know much about makeup but those look so deliciously cramy and fantabulous!

Anyhoo many hug and xxxxx's to youuuuuuuu! :)

Oh god, that's awful! I'm so sorry!

One of the reasons I enjoy buying makeup/skincare so much is because of the awesome service I get ..!

I know what you mean, sometimes I don't know how rude/obtuse sales people got hired in the first place.

Cheryl,
I do always always get mad at mostly all sales ladies as well. :p

Most SL I have met don't even know the basics of makeup/beauty, but still pretend as they knew everything better.

There are much more things, I have to complain abaout, but yeah... I should just leave this, otherwise, I'll really go insane. :D
